Access to Clean Water Changes Lives
Water is essential for life, yet millions of people worldwide, particularly in conflict-affected regions like Gaza, face immense challenges in accessing clean and safe drinking water. The Muslim Community urgently appeals for your support to provide clean water to those in dire need.
EMERGENCY
Water Crisis is Severe
In Gaza, the water crisis is severe and complex, exacerbated by ongoing conflict and restrictive blockades. Key issues include:
- Damaged Infrastructure: Conflict has extensively damaged water supply and sanitation infrastructure, including pipelines, wells, sewage treatment plants, and reservoirs. Repair efforts are hindered by security challenges and limited access to necessary materials.
- Blockades and Restrictions: Strict blockades restrict imports of essential materials needed to repair and upgrade water infrastructure, exacerbating the crisis and limiting access to clean water for the population.
- Contaminated Water Sources: Damage and limitations on infrastructure force many to rely on contaminated water sources, including groundwater polluted with sewage and seawater, as well as untreated wastewater. Consumption of such water poses severe health risks, leading to outbreaks of waterborne diseases like cholera, typhoid, and hepatitis.
- Health Impacts: The use of contaminated water has resulted in a widespread public health crisis, disproportionately affecting vulnerable groups such as children and the elderly. Long-term exposure to contaminated water contributes to chronic health issues among the population.
- Humanitarian Response: International organizations and humanitarian agencies are actively engaged in providing assistance, including distributing clean water, implementing water treatment projects, and supporting health interventions. However, the scale of the crisis often exceeds available resources, highlighting the urgent need for continued support and intervention.
Addressing the water crisis in Gaza requires sustained international attention and support to mitigate immediate health risks and establish long-term solutions for sustainable water access and infrastructure development.
Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) said
“مَن سَقَى مُسْلِمًا، سَقَاهُ اللَّهُ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ مِنْ نَهْرِي، يَشْرَبُ مِنْهُ حَتَّى يَنْقَطِعَ عَطَشُهُ، وَأَنَا أَوَّلُ مَنْ يُدْعَى إِلَيْهِ”
Whoever provides water for a person to drink, Allah shall provide him drink on the Day of Judgment from my Fountain whereafter he shall never again feel thirsty until he enters Jannah (Paradise).”
(Sunan Ibn Majah, Hadith 3664)
